Who are we?
About TPS Auto Electrical
Where Proven Heritage Meets the Future of Automotive Technology
Since opening our doors in Witbank (eMalahleni) in January 1998, TPS Auto Electrical, founded by Cobus Grobler, has grown from a trusted local auto electrical specialist into a comprehensive automotive service provider known for technical expertise, precision diagnostics, specialized repairs, and a passion for automotive engineering.
What makes TPS unique is our dual identity: a deep heritage in traditional mechanical and electrical engineering, combined with a continuous drive to embrace modern automotive technology.
Whether we are restoring a classic vehicle to its original specifications or diagnosing the complex electronic systems of a modern vehicle, our approach remains the same:
Understand the technology. Invest in the expertise. Get the diagnosis right. Do the job properly.
Our Heritage: Understanding Where Automotive Technology Began
Our passion for classic and historic vehicles is more than simply a service we offer—it is part of our technical heritage.
Founder Cobus Grobler has played a defining role in establishing TPS Auto Electrical and developing its specialist knowledge in vintage and classic vehicles, particularly in mechanical fuel injection, legacy electrical systems, and the restoration and preservation of historic automotive technology.
Our expertise in mechanical fuel injection (MFI) and legacy electrical systems was further strengthened through more than ten years of direct technical mentorship under Rolf Frommjohann Snr, founder of T.W. Diesel.
Rolf previously served as a Bosch research technician in Stuttgart-Feuerbach during the early 1970s development of the historic K-Jetronic fuel injection system.
Through this mentorship, TPS gained a rare foundation of practical German engineering knowledge and hands-on understanding of the mechanical fuel injection systems that defined an important era of automotive development.
This technical heritage, further represented by the 1997 Continental Bosch Jetronic Cup, remains an important part of who we are today.
It is why we don't simply work on classic European, American, and collector vehicles—we understand the engineering principles behind them and the systems on which they were originally built.
From Auto Electrical Specialist to Comprehensive Automotive Centre
When TPS Auto Electrical was established in January 1998, our primary focus was vehicle electrical repairs, including petrol fuel injection systems, starter motors, and alternator repairs.
As automotive technology and the industry evolved, so did we.
In our early years, we joined the ECar Group, a franchise operated by Diesel Electric, giving us access to current technical information, repair guidelines, and industry support.
In March 2006, TPS Auto Electrical became part of the Bosch Car Service Network, operated by Robert Bosch South Africa (RBSA).
As the market changed and complete replacement starter motors and alternators became increasingly cost-effective, the traditional repair market declined. Bosch encouraged its dealers to expand into comprehensive vehicle servicing.
We embraced that change.
Rather than remaining focused on a single area of automotive repair, we expanded our capabilities to provide customers with a broader range of professional services under one roof.
Expanding into Diesel Technology
By 2010, advances in diesel technology created another opportunity for TPS to expand its technical capabilities.
We entered the field of diesel component repairs, initially investing in a small diesel test bench for testing and repairing diesel injectors.
As demand and technical requirements grew, so did our investment.
We progressed to a larger test bench capable of testing up to six injectors simultaneously, along with the specialized equipment required to diagnose and repair high-pressure diesel pumps.
In early 2016, Bosch Germany introduced the CP4 diesel pump, creating an even greater need for specialized equipment and technical expertise.
Bosch Germany and RBSA implemented certification and equipment requirements for workshops purchasing CP4 replacement components. TPS Auto Electrical met these requirements and established a fully equipped diesel pump room, supported by trained technicians and specialized testing equipment.
Our investment in the Hartridge Sabre diesel test bench further strengthened our capabilities and enabled us to join ADCO Diesel Service.
This gave TPS the ability to process warranty claims, work alongside local vehicle dealerships in Witbank, and access genuine Bosch CP4 pump components.
Today, TPS operates with the combined capabilities of the Bosch Car Service and ADCO Diesel Service networks.
Evolving with Modern Automotive Technology
While our heritage allows us to understand the engineering of vehicles from decades past, our commitment to technology ensures that we remain equipped for the vehicles of today.
Modern vehicles have evolved from mechanical distributors and conventional electrical systems into sophisticated networks incorporating ECUs, CAN-bus systems, electronic control modules, advanced sensors, and increasingly complex electronic architectures.
TPS has continually invested in the diagnostic infrastructure, specialist software, testing equipment, and technician training required to keep pace with this evolution.
Our philosophy is simple:
Uncompromising Precision
Every vehicle deserves accurate diagnosis and professional workmanship.
From a vintage mechanical fuel-injected vehicle requiring period-correct calibration to a modern vehicle requiring advanced electronic fault diagnosis, we approach every job with the same attention to detail.
Continuous Growth
Automotive technology never stands still, and neither do we.
We continuously invest in modern diagnostic equipment, specialist testing technology, software, and technical training to keep pace with the increasingly complex challenges of today's vehicles.
Complete Solutions
Our capabilities extend from classic vehicle electrical systems and custom harness fabrication to modern electronic diagnostics, ECU troubleshooting, battery systems, starters, alternators, diesel components, turbochargers, and comprehensive vehicle servicing.
Passing the Knowledge to the Next Generation
The story of TPS Auto Electrical is also a story of generations of automotive expertise.
Founder Cobus Grobler has built much of his reputation around his specialist knowledge of vintage and classic vehicles, preserving the mechanical and electrical principles of some of the automotive industry's most iconic machines.
Today, that knowledge is being carried forward into the next generation.
Cobus's son, Morné Grobler, has joined the family business and represents the modern technological direction of TPS Auto Electrical.
As a Bosch Systems Technician, Morné specializes in the increasingly complex electronic and diagnostic systems found in modern vehicles. His expertise includes advanced diagnostics, automotive electronics, vehicle communication networks, electronic control systems, and modern vehicle technology.
This creates something particularly unique within TPS Auto Electrical:
The knowledge of one generation working alongside the technology of the next.
Where Cobus brings an understanding of how many of the industry's classic mechanical and electrical systems were engineered, Morné brings the expertise required to diagnose and understand today's increasingly sophisticated electronically controlled vehicles.
Together, they represent the two sides of TPS Auto Electrical's identity:
Proven heritage. Modern technology. One standard of excellence.
Investing in the Future
Technology is only as powerful as the people who understand how to use it.
In 2025, TPS Auto Electrical took another important step by investing in the development of young talent within the automotive industry.
We introduced targeted training programs for apprentices and junior technicians, pairing practical training with advanced diagnostic and testing equipment.
Our goal is not simply to have the right equipment in our workshop. It is to develop the next generation of technicians capable of understanding, diagnosing, and repairing the increasingly sophisticated vehicles of the future.
This commitment to technical excellence is reflected in our team.
TPS Auto Electrical is proud to be home to three of only six Bosch Systems Technicians in South Africa.
The Bosch Systems Technician certification represents the highest level of Bosch technical qualification available within the automotive industry, making this a rare achievement and a strong reflection of our commitment to technical expertise, continual development, and industry leadership.
Two Worlds. One Standard of Excellence.
Our journey has taken us from traditional auto electrical repairs to advanced diesel technology, electronic diagnostics, specialized testing, comprehensive vehicle servicing, and classic automotive restoration.
Yet the principle behind everything we do has remained unchanged:
Understand the technology. Invest in the expertise. Get the diagnosis right. Do the job properly.
Whether you are a collector looking to restore a historic automotive icon, a classic-car enthusiast searching for specialist mechanical fuel injection expertise, a dealership requiring advanced diagnostic support, or a motorist needing reliable servicing and repairs for a modern vehicle, TPS Auto Electrical brings together the knowledge of the past and the technology of the future.
From period-correct classic restoration to high-level modern electronic diagnostics, we bring the same commitment to precision, technical excellence, and professional workmanship.
